Jervois Global Limited has authorised a net zero Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions goal for Jervois Finland operations by 2035 and a Carbon Reduction Roadmap outlining measures Jervois Finland can take to achieve this goal.
In a statement, Jervoise said the Roadmap sets Scope 1 and 2 GHG emission reduction targets of 40 per cent by 2025, 60 per cent by 2030, and 100 per cent by 2035 from its 2020 baseline. Jervois Finland is on the path to achieving its 2025 target thanks to a recently announced power purchase agreement to purchase renewable energy from wind farms, which is expected to lower Jervois Finland’s emissions by up to 30 per cent, and an already underway planned, budgeted, and approved energy saving program
Jervois Finland has a track record of supporting the circular economy, increasing energy efficiency, and achieving low carbon intensity through research, innovation, and action. Since 2002, it has established, met, or exceeded its energy efficiency targets, resulting in cost savings of up to €0.5 million in 2021 alone. In 2021, approximately 100 per cent of Jervois Finland’s non-hazardous wastes were recycled or reused, while the proportion of total wastes going to final disposal decreased from 24 per cent to less than 9 per cent between 2020 and 2021. Prior to release, water at the facility is recycled and reused five times.
The Carbon Reduction Roadmap is further informed by third-party Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), which Jervois Finland undertook in 2012, 2015, and 2019. Annual Global Warming Potential (GWP) assessments will be used to evaluate and disclose progress towards the target.
Jervois said it backs the Paris Agreement and its goal of limiting global warming. Through the growing use of electric vehicles, Jervoise added that cobalt already has a significant impact on the net zero future. Jervois understands its part in assisting the move to net zero by lowering operating emissions related to cobalt products.
