Liontown Resources Limited has awarded the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project‘s Kathleen’s Corner and Mt. Mann Open Pit Mining Services contract to Iron Mine Contracting Pty Ltd.
Iron Mine Contracting provides drilling and blasting, loading and hauling of ore and waste from open pit excavations, haul road construction and maintenance, and dewatering of open pit excavations services at the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project’s Kathleen’s Corner and Mt Mann open pits. Iron Mine Contracting deployed in December 2022 and began open pit operations in early January 2023 under a Preliminary Works Agreement, quickly ramping up to the requisite Total Material Movement rates.
The contract for Open Pit Mining Services is worth roughly A$240 million over a three-year period. The whole contract will be awarded in late 2022 after a competitive bidding procedure.
Iron Mine Contracting, which has recognised various potentials for Liontown, has committed to cooperating with the Tjiwarl Traditional Owners.
“We have been impressed with the commitment and rapid ramp up by Iron Mine Contracting since they commenced work for us at Kathleen Valley and are therefore very pleased to be awarding them the full Open Pit Mining Services contract,” Liontown Managing Director Tony Ottaviano said.
Ottaviano added, “The contract formalises the relationship we established late last year and allows us to safely and seamlessly continue on with our open pit mining operations to the high standards and volumes we expect.”
