Western Australian (WA) Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis has met with PT Bogasari, Indonesia’s largest integrated flour milling operation and a significant WA grains customer.

PT Bogasari is Indonesia’s largest instant noodle manufacturer, where WA wheat is highly appreciated for use in both instant and fresh products, and demand for soft-type wheat for use in cake and biscuits is increasing.

“Meeting with PT Bogasari is a fantastic chance to see firsthand the biggest flour mill in Indonesia, and fully understand the operation and the large scale of its manufacturing output,” Minister Jarvis said.

In 2022-23, Indonesia was WA’s third largest export market for primary industry products, contributing $1.4 billion in exports, with wheat accounting for $1.2 billion.

“WA has exported wheat to Indonesia for more than 20 years, and our State has been one of the top five largest suppliers over the past decade,” Minister Jarvis stated.

Minister Jarvis was accompanied on the flour mill visit by a WA primary industry team as part of the Indonesia Connect Roadshow 2023.

The Indonesia Connect Roadshow provides a venue for businesses to engage in commerce, investment, and cultural exchange while promoting WA as a trusted regional partner.

“The Cook Government’s Indonesia Connect Roadshow is a unique opportunity to support a WA industry delegation, and efforts to further build relationships with Indonesian businesses,” Minister Jarvis added.

The delegation included the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (a WA Government and Grains Australia venture) and CBH Group, both of which have links with PT Bogasari.

The visit gave insight into shifting consumer preferences for wheat-based goods, which will assist WA’s grains industry in adapting to better meet the needs of Indonesian customers.
