Victorian Minister for Climate Action, Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio was joined by local Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke MP to Monash University‘s Peninsula campus to see the Boiler Electrification – Domestic Hot Water Project in action.

The project, which received an $810,000 grant from the Victorian Government‘s Business Recovery Energy Efficiency Fund Capital Works Grant Program, involves the replacement of natural gas boilers with electric systems in four buildings on Monash University’s Clayton and Peninsula campuses.

The new hot water systems emit no greenhouse gas emissions, resulting in an estimated 80% decrease in energy use compared to older systems.

Monash University Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice-President Peter Marshall AM was on hand to assist in illustrating the project.

Adertisement

“We’re grateful to the Victorian Government, the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning, and the Business Recovery Energy Efficiency Fund (BREEF) team for their invaluable support in achieving the project’s success,” Marshall said.

“They played a vital role in facilitating the transition to electrified hot water systems, demonstrating the power of collaborative efforts towards a greener future,” he added.

According to Monash, Minister D’Ambrosio’s presence emphasised the significance of the grant funding and demonstrated Monash University’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2030 by embracing large-scale energy-efficient technology.

Monash University has already begun construction of six more systems at its Clayton campus, targeting more complicated structures based on the success of the Boiler Electrification – Domestic Hot Water Project.
