The Western Australian Government has announced the opening of Synergy’s Jerramungup electric vehicle (EV) fast charging site, marking the halfway milestone for the WA EV Network.

Hyden’s EV fast charger is the 26th of 49 planned stations across the State. Synergy and Horizon Power are installing the charging stations along essential travel routes, which are typically less than 200 kilometres apart.

Once completed, the charging station will cover 7,000 km north to Kununurra, along the State’s south west coast to Esperance and east to Kalgoorlie and Eucla.

The 150kW Jerramungup charger, located along the southern coastline, enables drivers to top up their EVs in just 20 minutes.

Adertisement

Warmun, Derby, Halls Creek, Norseman, and Hamelin Pool have all received EV fast chargers in recent months, with plans for Billabong, Minilya, Kalgoorlie, Kojonup, Brookton, Ravensthorpe, and Bunbury well underway.

The WA EV Network, which is expected to be completed by mid-2024, is part of the State Government’s $43.5 million investment in EV infrastructure in WA, with the goal of increasing EV adoption to assist WA’s goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050.

Energy Minister Reece Whitby said the WA EV Network is instrumental in establishing the essential EV charging infrastructure, which is vital for continuously advancing electric vehicles across WA.

“The WA EV Network is playing an important role in supporting sustainable transportation development and reducing carbon emissions as we transition to net zero by 2050,” Minister Whitby stated.
