Tivan Limited and Charles Darwin University (CDU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which the parties will further talks on future options for collaboration on educational and vocational pathways.
Tivan has a substantial presence in the Northern Territory, with its registered office being relocated to Darwin. According to Tivan, Darwin serves as a vital site for project development, including the next phase of planning and stakeholder engagement to facilitate the TIVAN® Processing Facility in the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct (MASDP).
Under the terms of the MoU, Tivan and CDU will hold discussions about any prospective options for joint ventures involving the parties’ respective enterprises in Darwin and the Northern Territory. These opportunities could involve knowledge exchange on critical mineral processing, vanadium redox flow batteries, and renewable energy technology, collaborative training and research opportunities, scholarship opportunities, and developing projects that could make use of CDU’s “REMHART” Renewable Energy Grid Testing Facility in East Arm, Darwin.
Formalising the parties’ collaboration is contingent upon the negotiation and execution of a commercial agreement. The initial term of the MOU is twelve (12) months.
“The Board of Tivan is delighted to have agreed a MoU with CDU, one of the most important institutions in the Northern Territory. This agreement is a part of Tivan’s ongoing and extensive community engagement program, and reflective of our commitment to sustainable development at the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct,” Tivan Executive Chairman Grant Wilson said.
“It is also a great example of industry and research coming together, to pursue shared goals in the critical minerals sector. We are looking forward to working closely with CDU, including extensively on campus, to foster durable and highly skilled employment pathways at scale for the next generation of trainees and graduates,” Wilson added.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman commented, “Charles Darwin University is excited about the prospects of collaborating with Tivan, which will offer our students and the energy and resource sector of Northern Australia some exciting opportunities. The Northern Territory has the potential to make a more significant contribution to Australia’s energy and resource sector, and with these research industry partnerships, we can translate this potential into opportunities for growth and development.”
