The Northern Territory (NT) Government has announced that critical minerals company Tivan Limited has decided to move its headquarters to Darwin and expand its locally based team in the coming months.

The company said its decision follows its plans to establish a globally significant project that will support the development of a multimineral hub that can process critical minerals essential for renewable energy.

Tivan Executive Chairman Grant Wilson said the relocation would assist in project facilitation efforts related to the planned work at the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct (MASDP).

He added that the new site also moves the company closer to its core interests and future workforce.

The move boosts Tivan’s presence in the region. It enables it to support the next phase of planning and stakeholder engagement for its processing facility, earmarked to be developed at MASDP.

According to the government, the company’s minerals processing facility is expected to create at least 1,500 jobs during construction and approximately 1,000 highly skilled long-term employment opportunities.

The facility will be used to process vanadium, titanium and iron.

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said NT is emerging as a key player that supports global supply chains for the critical minerals required for new technologies.

“Tivan moving their headquarters to Darwin signifies that the Territory is a critical minerals hub. It also shows Middle Arm is one of the most exciting and significant developments in the nation, and it will support thousands of jobs for Territorians,” Chief Minister Fyles added.

Chief Minister Fyles noted that the move provides economic and strategic opportunities for the Territory and supports its efforts of becoming a supplier of minerals that can support the transition to a decarbonised economy.

Mining and Industry Minister Nicole Manison said NT has the critical minerals needed to support renewable energy, battery storage and high-tech industries.
