The Victorian Government is encouraging local producers from regional towns to showcase their locally produced food and drinks as part of its $1 million Regional Activation Grants Program.
Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence has unveiled the first round of the grants program today, inviting Regional Tourism Boards, food and fibre groups, and regional bodies to apply for funding.
Grants of up to $70,000 are available for local events showcasing local food and beverages produced in the regions where they are produced.
The initiative aims to promote high-quality food and beverages from Victoria’s regions and foster connections between local producers and consumers.
The events, such as farmers’ markets, food and beverage festivals, and collaborative tasting sessions, aim to directly connect local communities with producers.
“We’re empowering local producers to promote Victoria’s wonderful variety of locally sourced food and drinks and celebrate the unique stories behind every product,” Minister Spence said.
“These grants will help foster a rich appreciation for Victorian produce and encourage consumers to shop in their local region and build a connection with local producers,” the Minister stated.
Businesses that participate will also have their products included on the Vic Grown website. The website functions as a complete hub, showing varied producer profiles, providing insights into the fascinating tales behind local products, and making it easy for consumers looking for locally sourced items to find them.
The Victorian agricultural sector generates over $20 billion annually, with many of the products available locally.
The Victorian Government is supporting farmers and agriculture businesses through the $2 million Victorian Grown initiative, to ensure their strength, innovation, and sustainability, promoting Victorian premium produce globally.
