Talga Group Ltd provided an update on permit for its Swedish Vittangi Anode Project, which includes a downstream 19,500tpa commercial battery anode production plant in the Luleå Industrial Park and Nunasvaara South natural graphite mining operation in Vittangi.

The Swedish Land and Environment Court finished its three-day main hearing on the Refinery environmental permit application on 5 May 2023. On the last day of the hearing, the Court announced it will publish its verdict on 21 June 2023. The Court’s ruling is appealable.

The building licences for the Refinery production facilities were issued by Lule Municipality early this year. The building permits went into effect on 24 March 2023.

On 5 April 2023, the Court earlier granted an environmental and Natura 2000 authorisation to the Company’s upstream Nunasvaara South natural graphite mine outside Vittangi.

Adertisement

The Land and Environment Court of Appeal (Court of Appeal), in accordance with the statutory process previously outlined by the Company, has granted additional time for three parties, including two local Reindeer Herding Cooperatives and a local non-profit environmental organisation, to submit the required details of their reasons for the appeal. The Court has summoned two parties to provide more information in support of their application.

The last extended date for all parties is 7 June 2023 (Extended Deadline). The Court informed the appellants that no additional extensions would be allowed.

According to Talga, the Court of Appeal will consider the merits of any submissions received by the Extended Deadline and will decide whether to deny or grant leave to appeal on 14 June 2023.
