Western Australian Premier Roger Cook has embarked on his first official visit to South Korea, the State’s third-largest trading partner.
During his visit, Premier Cook will attend the 44th Australia Korea Business Council Joint Meeting, a two-day event involving key government and industry decision-makers from both nations.
The 44th Australia Korea Business Council Joint Meeting will focus on strategies for expanding economic ties in energy, critical minerals, hydrogen, financial services, defence, education, food and agriculture industries, emphasising innovation and sustainability.
“This visit also showcases Western Australia as a desirable destination for trade and investment with particular focus on battery materials and renewable hydrogen,” Premier Cook said.
Premier Cook will also take the opportunity to welcome delegates to the State, as it has been revealed that Perth has won the proposal to host the 45th AKBC KABC Joint Meeting in September 2024. The bid was led by the WA Government through Invest and Trade WA and was backed by Business Events Perth.
“I look forward to hosting the 45th AKBC KABC Joint Meeting in Perth next year, and showcasing our spectacular city to representatives from our East Asia partner,” the Premier stated.
The visit will also include meetings with significant government and business stakeholders such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, KOGAS (Korean Gas Corporation), and Samsung C&T, as well as a visit to the POSCO headquarters in Pohang, one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers.
“This engagement strengthens ties with one of our key trade and investment markets and fosters mutual economic growth and prosperity,” the Premier said.
