The Western Australian Government has announced a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station is now operational in Walpole.

The new charger has a capacity of up to 150 kilowatts and can charge vehicles in as little as 20 minutes, with a backup 7.6 kW charger also available.

The charging station is located on the northern side of the South West Highway, directly across from the Walpole Town Centre.

“I’m very excited that Walpole is the latest link in WA’s EV Network, which is unlocking the State for EV drivers,” Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie said.

“The new charger will benefit Walpole locals and visitors alike, ensuring EV drivers can visit with confidence,” she stated.

The new EV charging station, delivered by Synergy in collaboration with the Shire of Manjimup, aims to ensure a fast and enjoyable user experience.

According to the State Government, the WA EV Network will be the longest in Australia, reaching over 7000 km from Kununurra in the north to Esperance in the south, and east to the Eucla.

It will include 98 additional charging stations spread over 49 locations along critical travel routes that are typically less than 200 km apart.

“The new fast chargers along the WA EV Network are opening up the State for EV drivers. This new charging station in Walpole, along with the new fast chargers in Williams, Manjimup, and Albany, ensures EV drivers can travel with confidence from Perth to Albany,” Energy Minister Bill Johnston said.

“By easing ‘range anxiety’ for EV drivers, my Government is encouraging the uptake of electric vehicles and supporting WA’s road to net zero emissions by 2050,” Minister Johnston added.

The $21 million Network is part of the State Government’s State Electric Vehicle Action Plan for WA.
