Separate non-binding agreements with Western Gas have been made by Woodside Burrup Pty Ltd and the North West Shelf Project participants, outlining the key terms and procedure for carrying out joint technical studies and negotiating and finalising fully termed agreements for the processing of 2-3 Mtpa of Equus gas starting in 2027 using Woodside-operated infrastructure.

According to Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill, Woodside would give Western Gas access to a competitive option to supply Asian LNG markets while enhancing domestic gas security for Western Australia (WA) by utilising existing infrastructure.

“This is an important step in maximising utilisation of our existing infrastructure to deliver domestic gas and LNG to local and global customers and value for our shareholders and community. The proposed gas processing opportunity with Western Gas for the Equus offshore resource demonstrates the flexibility provided by the Pluto-KPG Interconnector, which commenced operations in Marck 2022, to optimise available capacity at our world-class facilities,” O’Neill said.

It is proposed that Equus gas would be generated on a mobile production, storage, and offloading facility and delivered to the Pluto LNG complex through a 200 km pipeline. It is suggested that the Equus gas be transported via the Pluto-KGP Interconnector to be processed and exported at the Karratha Gas Plant (KGP) before Pluto Train 1 processing capacity is made available, with Pluto Train 1 processing and export starting once processing capacity is made available. 2027 is the target year for the first LNG for the gas processing potential, with a planned total production of 2-3Mtpa of LNG and 50-75 TJ/d of domestic gas.
