The final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Woodside Energy‘s proposed Browse to the North West Shelf (NWS) Project has been published.

Woodside Energy published the final Environmental Impact Statement following directions by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment, and Water (DCCEEW).

Responses to comments made during the public consultation process, which lasted for eight weeks from December 2019 to February 2020, are included in the final Environmental Impact Statement.

As the proposed Brose to North West Shelf Project’s operator, Woodside Energy welcomes the release of the final Environmental Impact Statement as a significant development for the project. Woodside Energy said the DCCEEW will now put together its report with recommendations and deliver it to the  Minister.

According to Woodside Energy, the proposed Browse to North West Shelf Project would transport feed gas from fields in the offshore Browse Basin to be processed at the NSW Project’s Karratha Gas Plant. For many years to come, Woodside said the Browse and the NWS Project Extension are anticipated to benefit the localities.

Energy security in Western Australia and the Asia Pacific region could be improved by the proposed Browse to NWS Project, with an annual production capacity of 11.4 million tonnes of LNG, LPG, and domestic gas.

Woodside Energy CEO Meg O’Neill said moving into the assessment phase for the project was a significant and advantageous step in the regulatory approval procedure.

“The final EIS provides comprehensive detail of potential environmental impacts, proposed mitigations, and management measures. The processing of Browse gas through the Karratha Gas Plant could provide energy needed in Western Australia and overseas, while providing jobs and taxation revenue that support our host communities,” O’Neill stated

According to Woodside Energy, once the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority accepts the corresponding State Environmental Review Document Response to Submissions, it will also be published.
