Civmec Limited has been awarded a major construction contract in the resources sector, as well as a number of other infrastructure and maintenance projects, bringing its order book to over A$1.15 billion.
The Mount Holland lithium project in Western Australia is being built by Wesfarmers and Sociedad Qumica y Minera de Chile S.A subsidiaries through their 50:50 joint venture manager Covalent Lithium Pty Ltd.
The company expects to start work on this project in 2022. Completion is expected in 2024.
The lithium concentrate produced at the Mount Holland mining site will be transferred to a refinery that Civmec has been entrusted with building.
It will be converted into high-purity lithium hydroxide monohydrate at the refinery, which will be located in Kwinana, Western Australia, about 10 kilometres from Civmec’s flagship heavy engineering operations in Henderson.
The scope of work includes structural and piping fabrication, as well as other services provided by Civmec.
Long-term client Roy Hill is also giving the company extra business for maintenance and shutdowns.
It also recently finished work for a nickel production in Western Australia’s Goldfields.
“Demand for heavy engineering and construction services in the private and public sectors in Australia remains strong and these new contracts underscore, yet again, our strength as a top-tier contractor. Our efforts to generate more recurring income are also paying off as we are getting more work involving maintenance and capital works from both existing and new clients,” said Civmec’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Patrick Tallon in an announcement.
