Melbourne is set to host the Asia Pacific (APAC) Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen Summit, which will be held from 29-31 August.

Over 1,000 delegates will gather in Melbourne to discuss increasing the region’s adoption of offshore wind and green hydrogen generation.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos stated that the summit would bring international visitors to Melbourne and allow them to learn and share ideas about critical energy concerns for the region.

“We continue to invest in business events because they boost visitation, support local jobs and put Melbourne on the global stage as a city for knowledge and innovation,” Minister Dimopoulos said.

The APAC Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen Summit will enable the Victorian Government to demonstrate its policies and programs in wind energy and green hydrogen to other APAC governments, renewable energy groups, and industry leaders.

According to the State Government, Victoria will be the site of Australia’s first offshore wind farms, which will help meet the State’s offshore wind ambitions of 4 GW by 2035 and 9 GW by 2040, as well as create up to 59,000 employment as we move towards net zero emissions by 2045.

“Victoria is leading the country in establishing Australia’s first offshore wind energy industry and our potential for green hydrogen continues to grow and attract investment – creating more jobs in renewable energy generation,” Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio said.

The APAC Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen Summit is part of a strong calendar of business events in Melbourne for 2023.

“We are thrilled to have secured this high-profile business event for Melbourne, which highlights the role business events play in supporting Victoria’s commitment to sustainability,” Melbourne Convention Bureau CEO Julia Swanson said.
