The Northern Territory (NT) Government has announced that the 2023 World Aquaculture Conference is now in Darwin from 29 May to 1 June 2023.
According to the State Government, the conference has returned to Australia since 2014, and it will be attended by hundreds of participants from all over the world.
“The Territory Labor Government is proud to welcome the World Aquaculture Conference for 2023 to Darwin, the first time it has been in Australia since 2014,” Minister for Agribusiness and Fisheries Paul Kirby said.
With the theme ‘Supporting Strength in Aquaculture’, the 2023 World Aquaculture Conference will focus on the future of the aquaculture industry.
The State Government said growth, environmental implications, and sustainability are three of its top concerns as it works to construct a holistic plan for agriculture and aquaculture by drafting a 2030 strategy.
The fishing and aquaculture industries contribute approximately $100 million to the local economy and sustain over 900 full-time jobs. With a supportive government and numerous opportunities to expand the local aquaculture industry, the State Government claimed NT is an ideal location for the conference.
“The fishing and aquaculture is worth an approximate $100 million to the NT and the World Aquaculture Conference will provide opportunity to identify new methods to stimulate the industry and highlight the potential of the Territory,” Minister Kirby said.
The NT Government added that the 2023 World Aquaculture Conference will demonstrate its commitment to the global aquaculture community and support for a sustainable aquaculture industry.
“We supports a sustainable aquaculture industry, and this major international conference and trade show will attribute to our dedication to the world aquaculture community,” Minister Kirby added.
Over the course of four days, participants can anticipate hearing from academics, industry researchers, and market and industry analysts, in addition to ample opportunities for learning and networking.
