The Australian Government has announced grants of up to $70 million to support the development of a hydrogen hub in Townsville.
The grant opportunity aims to stimulate investment in the development of the emerging Townsville hydrogen sector and will be open to any eligible consortium with the ability to develop and implement a green hydrogen hub in the Townsville region.
Hydrogen producers, consumers, and potential exporters in the industrial, transportation, export, and energy markets are encouraged to look into the opportunity.
A two-stage open competitive assessment process will be used:
- an initial expression of interest stage in which applications’ relative merit and business case will be evaluated
- short-listed applicants will be invited to submit a comprehensive proposal.
The hydrogen hub will support Australia’s transition to a clean energy economy by creating jobs and encouraging decarbonisation in difficult-to-abate sectors like industrial processing and transportation.
