Bowen Coking Coal Ltd reported it was notified by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water about its intention to approve the Proposed Action, which will allow a Mining Lease (ML) to be granted after land access agreements for the Isaac River Project are finalised.
According to the Company, once operational, Isaac River Coal Mine will produce high-quality, high-yielding metallurgical coal. Bowen Coking Coal employs over 700 rural Queenslanders after starting from scratch a year ago.
Since June 2018, the Company has mined approximately 1.3 million tonnes of run-of-mine (ROM) coal from two new mines and started a third pit. With Isaac River Mine’s expected clearance, we can fulfil our 2024 ROM output objective of 5 million tonnes.
“As the Bowen Basin’s newest independent coal producer, we’re here to meet the growing demand for energy and steelmaking coal. We are confident that world steel and energy demand will continue its rapid growth, driven by on-going industrialization in the developing world, and the drive for decarbonisation in the developed world,” BCB Executive Chairman Nick Jorss said.
