Victorian Minister of Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio has unveiled $2.2 million in funding for four projects to develop new charging technologies under the Zero Emissions Vehicle Emerging Technologies program (ZEVET program).
The completion of the project will add 116 charging sites already installed as part of the Victorian Government‘s destination charging program, aiming to achieve 50% of new light vehicle sales being zero emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2045.
The ZEVET program provides grants to promote innovative electric vehicle (EV) charging technologies, such as pilots, trials, demonstrations, and projects ready for deployment.
“The innovative projects will help us meet our 2030 target of half of all new light vehicle sales being zero emissions, and also help reduce emissions to 2045 emissions reduction targets,” Minister D’Ambrosio said.
JET Charge Pty Ltd has secured funding for its JET Charge Battery Backed EV Charging project and the EV Charging Central – Apartments and Buildings project.
The JET Charge Battery Backed EV Charging project will deliver four custom, transportable solar, battery, and EV chargers, with the first deployed at Ballarat’s RACV Goldfields Resort and others will be trialled across Victoria.
Meanwhile, JET Charge’s Charging Central – Apartments and Buildings project in metropolitan Melbourne features 10 EV charging outlets in apartment carparks and commercial shared car spaces.
As part of the impending requirements under the National Construction Code 2022 energy efficiency regulations, there must be space in new structures for switchboards and EV chargers for 100% of car spaces in apartment complexes.
Intellihub Assets Pty Ltd will install 100 EV chargers mounted on street light poles in three inner city local government areas as part of their Street Light Pole Mounted EV Charger project.
Myenergi APAC Pty Ltd will install 100 smart connected EV Chargers in homes and businesses around Victoria, detecting and using excess electricity generated by rooftop solar to charge an EV.
“These projects will build on electric vehicle charging technologies to support the uptake of zero emissions vehicles. They’ll also create local industry and jobs as they build skills, capabilities and services across Victoria,” Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos stated.
The ZEVET program is part of the $19.21 million Acceleration of Zero Emissions Vehicle Adoption (AZEVA) program, which is hastening the rollout of public and fleet charging infrastructure throughout Victoria.
