NT Resources Week, Northern Australia’s largest resource industry-based networking, conference, and exhibition, is today kicking off in Darwin.
In partnership with the Northern Territory Government, NT Resources Week brings together key players in the resource industry, connecting attendees in mining, exploration, engineering, oil and gas, and environmental management.
“Resources week is a fantastic opportunity for industry to come together to progress economic opportunities for the Northern Territory. Establishing new mines and advancing the resources industry creates thousands of local jobs and brings the Territory closer to a $40 billion economy by 2030,” NT Minister for Mining and Industry Nicole Manison said.
In a statement by the Minister, she said the Territory government is driving economic investment and maximising resource exploration with over 20 mining projects working towards a Final Investment Decision with a combined value of more than $7 billion and a potential to generate over 5,000 construction jobs and 4,000 ongoing jobs.
The mining industry employed more than 4,400 people directly, and the total value of mineral production in the Northern Territory was $4.3 billion. Meanwhile, mineral exploration expenditure in the NT was $153.4 million in the 2021 calendar year, up 38 per cent from the figure of $110.8 million for 2020.
“The resources sector remains the mainstay of the Territory’s economic future, through exports, government revenues, jobs, and procurement. Events such as NT Resources Week showcase the pipeline of projects on the horizon, such as Arafura’s Nolan Project in Central Australia, which is well on its way for a final investment decision,” Arafura Resources Managing Director Gavin Lockyer.
NT Resources Week will also explore key milestone projects such as the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct and SunCable’s Australia-Asia power link.
