The Western Australian Government has welcomed the appointment of agricultural scientist and farmer Kelly Pearce as the new WA Agricultural Research Collaboration’s Director.

The WA Agricultural Research Collaboration, a partnership between research organisations, universities, and the State Government, intends to inspire the next generation of advances in the State’s agriculture and food sector.

According to the State Government, Dr Pearce has substantial board experience, a strong background in mixed farming research, development, and innovation, as well as involvement with grower groups.

“Dr Pearce brings strong scientific and industry experience to the role and is committed to creating a visionary research partnership,” Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis said.

The Collaboration brings together the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, CSIRO, Grower Group Alliance, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, and The University of Western Australia.

“The WA Agricultural Research Collaboration is focussed on a series of programs to respond to the unique opportunities and challenges of WA industries by applying the best scientific knowledge,” Minister Jarvis stated.

The Collaboration recently launched its first research project, a $6 million initiative to expand future beef production options in the State’s north by better connecting the diverse Ord River Irrigation Area and the long-running pastoral industry.

“It is exciting to see this landmark Collaboration, with the Western Australian Government, working together to sustainably grow our diverse agricultural industries,” Minister Jarvis added.
